Lands the World Has Never Seen
|
First there are triangles, of blue or gold or grey
Around them peer the animals, from half a world away
Others leap from peak to peak, or hide in corners dark
While leaves spring up around them, in that wild jungle park
It's a land the world has never seen, more true than those that be
Full of life and beauty, it brings a smile to me
Sometimes there's a prairie, reaching out to meet the sky
With only a few antelope, or horses racing by
But wait – I see a little mouse, a lizard ventures out
The more you look, the more you'll see; life is all about
It's a land the world has never seen, more true than those that be
Full of life and beauty, it brings a smile to me
Cats that are true calico, nestled on a bed
Dalmatians running through the fields, as a brown cow lifts her head
Hens scratching in the barnyard, watched by a rooster bold
Hex signs painted on the barn, and tools that don't grow old
It's a land the world has never seen, more true than those that be
Full of life and beauty, it brings a smile to me
Fish swim in sparkling waters, midst diamonds blue and green
Mountain goats climb icy cliffs, while snowy owls preen
Ladies ride on tigers, striped men on zebras tall
While high above a blue moon shines down upon them all
They are lands the world has never seen, more true than those that be
Full of life and beauty, they bring a smile to me
Lands the world has never seen, more true than those that be
Full of life and beauty, they bring a smile to me.
I wrote this song in honor and memory of my mother-in-law Dahlov Ipcar, who passed away on February 10, 2017, and sang it at her Remembrance, August 26, 2017; the mp3 version was recorded live at the event.
Harlequin Jungle (©1972, all rights reserved) is one of her many paintings, and hopefully provides a sense of what was going through my mind as I wrote the song. The image below clicks bigger.
You can see more of her work on her website https://www.dahlovipcarart.com or her Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/DahlovIpcar/.
She really was the best mother-in-law a woman could have, and I feel very lucky that she was part of my life.
