Taste of Maine Restaurant
Woolwich, Maine

The chick at the Taste of Maine Restaurant fledged yesterday. Charlie and I were there on Saturday (July 30) and she (or maybe he) hadn't tried leaving the nest - but when I went there today, the nest was empty.

Happily, s/he came back to visit while I was having a late lunch. (I'm thinking she may be female - she looks quite big, and has a "necklace" though that really isn't as good a clue for fledglings as it is for adults - so I'm going to call him or her "she" to simplify writing this; I'll also note that I haven't seen Mom on the nest as much as on some other nests I watch, which makes it harder for me to see their relative sizes.)

Here are two pictures of the young one landing. She didn't quite succeed the first time (see the tail disappearing above the nest) but "stuck it" the second!

And here are a couple of pictures of her on the nest.

I'm hoping to get down again tomorrow, and perhaps see even more activity - after making it back to the nest, she slept the rest of the time I was there!
