Sasanoa River, Maine

When I visited the Sasanoa River osprey on May 29, I was pretty sure there was a chick - but I wasn't able to see it. Charlie and I stopped by this afternoon - and not only could we see the chick - there are now two. Here are a few pictures - both chicks are only visible in the first few, and a couple of them are a bit fuzzy, but it's not easy to get sharp pictures of bobbling fuzzy things a tenth of a mile away. Last time I was there, I never did get to see the eaglet at the nearby eagle nest - I was sure he/she was there, because both parents were there and keeping watch - but the eaglet slept the whole time. This visit was better! When we first arrived, one of the adults (probably Mom) was perched on the side of the nest - and the eaglet was, yes, sleeping. It is what they do at this age, along with preening their new feathers. Then Mom left - and the youngster got up! And a minute later one of the adults returned. It looks to me as if she(?) is carrying a stick - but also looked as if there was a feeding - so either it wasn't a stick, or there was food on the nest. The pictures are blurry - but this nest is 3/10 of a mile from vantage point on a nearby bridge (see the May 29 post for details of what is where - I finally got Google Earth to install on my computer so I could measure the distances and provide a birds-eye view!) - and I was really enjoying seeing the interaction between the adult and the eaglet.
